About Christopher

Christopher M. Wicks has extensive experience as a church musician in the area of Salem, Oregon. He holds a MM in composition from the University of Montreal, and a MM in organ from the University of Oregon. He is a Fellow of the American Guild of Organists, which is the highest professional certification offered by that organization, and studied for two years as an undergraduate at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. Besides composing, playing the organ, and directing his bell choir, Christopher loves to cook and to translate French poetry.

Upcoming musical performances

May 27, 2018:  Sunday, 3 PM.  Performance of Wicks’ half-hour opera Love Is Strong As Death, on an original libretto, preceded by brief excerpts from three earlier operatic works of his.  With sopranos Alison Christiansen Seeber and Aimee Larsen Amend;  baritone Bennett Bailey;  and Wicks at the piano.  At Emmanuel Presbyterian Church at 19200 Willamette Drive in West Linn, Oregon.  $10 suggested donation.

June 24, 2018:  Sunday, 3 PM.  Annual Organ Recital at the First Church of Christ, Scientist in Salem, Oregon, at 935 High Street, with their Moller pipe organ, together with soprano Aimee Larsen Amend.  To include the concert premieres of Wicks’ “Four Advent Meditations” for organ, and “Five Songs of Christ’s Healing” for soprano and organ, together with music by Felix Mendelssohn and Pierre du Mage.  Donations gratefully accepted.

August 19, 2018:  Sunday, 3 PM.  Chamber music recital with Caius Oprea, violinist;  Katherine Parks, cellist;  and Wicks at the piano.  Including trios by Mozart and Wicks, a cello sonata by Brahms, and the world premiere of a cello suite by Wicks.  At Emmanuel Presbyterian Church at 19200 Willamette Drive in West Linn, Oregon.  Suggested donation $10.

November 2, 2018:  Friday, 7 PM.  First Friday Music:  Sandy Duffy Norman, flutist, collaborating with Wicks as pianist and composer.  Norman maintains a thriving private studio in Salem, and she and Wicks will be playing his new flute sonata, and also music by Franz Schubert and Luigi Boccherini.  At Silverton United Methodist Church, 203 W. Main St.  Freewill offering.

December 9, 2018:  Sunday, 3 PM.  Ninth Annual Advent Organ Concert:  “Prepare the Pathway, Prepare the Road!”  Solo organ music composed by Wicks, Pierre du Mage, and J.-F. Dandrieu, and also arias from two Advent cantatas by J.S. Bach, sung by soprano Alison Seeber, with violinist Marjory Lange and English horn player Aage Nielsen.  Played by Wicks on the Ott pipe organ at the Mount Angel Abbey Church, at One Abbey Drive, St. Benedict, Oregon.  Donations appreciated.
