About Christopher

Christopher M. Wicks has extensive experience as a church musician in the area of Salem, Oregon. He holds a MM in composition from the University of Montreal, and a MM in organ from the University of Oregon. He is a Fellow of the American Guild of Organists, which is the highest professional certification offered by that organization, and studied for two years as an undergraduate at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. Besides composing, playing the organ, and directing his bell choir, Christopher loves to cook and to translate French poetry.

Upcoming musical performances

August 19, 2018:  Sunday, 3 PM.  Chamber music recital with Caius Oprea, violinist;  Katherine Parks, cellist;  and Wicks at the piano.  Including trios by Mozart and Wicks, a cello sonata by Brahms, and the world premiere of a cello suite by Wicks.  At Emmanuel Presbyterian Church at 19200 Willamette Drive in West Linn, Oregon.  Suggested donation $10.

September 7, 2018:  Friday, 7 PM.  First Friday Music:  Portland Lyric Strings (Dolores D’Aigle, violin;  Gwen Sieben, viola;  and Angela Melo, cello) to play at Silverton United Methodist Church, 203 West Main Street.  In their varied program, they will be joined by Wicks at the piano for his ‘Piano Quartet No. 2,’ a four-movement work.  Donations appreciated but not required.

October 1, 2018:  Monday, 7 to 9 PM.  Wicks will discuss the role played by traditional Classical formal designs in his music, in a presentation to include live performances of three of his violin sonatas by Stephanie Barth, with Wicks at the piano.  The presentation is part of a monthly series through Cascadia Composers, and is free and open to the public.  Room 219, Lincoln Hall at Portland State University, 1620 SW Park Avenue, Portland, Ore.

November 2, 2018:  Friday, 7 PM.  First Friday Music:  Sandy Duffy Norman, flutist, collaborating with Wicks as pianist and composer.  Norman maintains a thriving private studio in Salem, and she and Wicks will be playing his new flute sonata, and also music by Franz Schubert and Luigi Boccherini.  At Silverton United Methodist Church, 203 W. Main St.  Freewill offering.

December 9, 2018:  Sunday, 3 PM.  Ninth Annual Advent Organ Concert:  “Prepare the Pathway, Prepare the Road!”  Solo organ music composed by Wicks, Pierre du Mage, and J.-F. Dandrieu, and also arias from Advent cantatas by J.S. Bach, sung by soprano Aimee Larsen Amend and alto Ellen Gordon Yager, with violinist Marjory Lange and English horn player Aage Nielsen.  Played by Wicks on the Ott pipe organ at the Mount Angel Abbey Church, at One Abbey Drive, St. Benedict, Oregon.  Donations appreciated.

February 17, 2019:  Sunday, 3:30 PM.  Ensemble Aalto (Aage Nielsen, English horn and doucaine;  and C. Wicks, organ and piano) plays in a monthly concert series sponsored by the Junction City Arts Council.  Repertory TBA.  At Faith Lutheran Church at 926 West Sixth Av., Junction City, Ore.  Free.
